Candidate statement

Since joining PwC in 2007, I have been a strong advocate for young professionals looking to become CPAs. I have realized the incredible benefits of the profession by working at PwC LLP Calgary, one of the largest employers of CPAs in Alberta, and by leveraging my skill set to benefit organizations that enrich the Province of Alberta in the areas of public services, art, and culture, as well as championing social change. I joined the CPA Alberta Board in 2022, aiming to contribute to and understand our profession's strategic processes. Serving on the board has deepened my commitment to CPA Alberta's mission.

As I look for re-election for three more years, I am eager to leverage my experience to shape our shared vision.I offer a generationally diverse perspective, deeper knowledge of our professional body, and robust board experience in the not-for-profit sector, which are vital for meeting our strategic goals. By integrating diverse viewpoints, we can enhance initiatives that resonate with our membership. I am excited to work with fellow and new board members as we continue to drive meaningful change, ensuring CPA Alberta thrives and supports its members well into the future.

What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?

Alberta's demand for CPAs with diverse skills beyond financial reporting and tax remains crucial. The evolving job market requires CPAs to be digitally adept, capable of working with artificial intelligence, informed about climate change reporting, and equipped to maintain societal trust amid regulatory uncertainties. Over the past three years on the CPA Alberta Board, I have gained invaluable insights into these emerging trends. I am eager to leverage this experience to forge stronger partnerships with universities and advocate for students to join the CPA profession. This initiative is not only essential for CPA Alberta but also offers a significant economic advantage for Alberta, as it seeks professionals to meet the province's growing employment needs.

My board experience has deepened my understanding of strategic processes, enabling me to contribute effectively to our shared vision for a thriving professional community. As we continue to adapt and innovate, I am committed to ensuring that CPA Alberta supports its members and leads the way in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the future.

How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?

Over the past three years on the CPA Alberta Board, particularly as a member of the Governance Committee, I've gained invaluable insights into the evolving demands of our profession. My experience has equipped me to contribute effectively to CPA Alberta's strategic priorities. I look forward to leveraging my board experience, especially in achieving ambitious goals, to drive innovation and fulfill market employment needs.

My skills in listening to diverse voices, offering constructive solutions, and collaborating with leaders position me well to support the board's efforts. These strategic priorities align closely with those of my own organization, which focuses on building trust and solving important problems with an empowered workforce. I will also apply the perspective gained from my diverse Alberta client portfolio to ensure that the recruitment of new CPAs and the ongoing development of existing members positively impacts Alberta’s citizens and organizations. As we continue to adapt and innovate, I am committed to ensuring CPA Alberta leads the governance of our profession effectively, supporting its members and addressing future challenges and opportunities. My background and experience enable me to make a meaningful contribution to our shared vision for a thriving professional community.
