Candidate statement
As an experienced CPA who has been a small firm owner, an accountant in industry, and a director on a board for a large member-focused organization, I believe I can bring a balanced and future-forward perspective to the CPA Alberta Board that will benefit all members. As a board member, I will commit to considering diverse perspectives and to working to help CPA Alberta maintain designated CPAs as the trusted accountants of choice in the province.
What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?
The speed of change is one of the biggest challenges that the profession faces and CPA Alberta needs to be positioned to respond both quickly and thoughtfully to the evolving environment around us. Whether it’s the growing use of AI, workforce recruitment challenges, increasingly complex tax compliance, or other new challenges ahead, I believe that CPA Alberta can play an important role in helping members meet these challenges while protecting the public interest. This can be achieved by ensuring that members’ interests are heard and that the board is committed to looking ahead to ensure strategic priorities are aligned with both regulatory objectives as well as the wellbeing of the CPA membership.
How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?
As someone who has spent over 20 years in the accounting world working both in industry as well as in public practice, my experience spans a wide range of areas of practice, which allows me to more intimately understand the challenges that members in all areas are facing. In addition, my experience as a board director of a credit union ensures that I have a solid understanding of governance at the board level. I’m a down-to-earth communicator with an interest in technology and the world around us, so I’m confident that I can bring value to the organization.
