Maureen Moneta CPA, CA, ICD.D began her term as CPA Alberta Board Chair in 2025 after serving as Board Vice-Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee. She has 15 years of Board experience and teaches for the Institute of Corporate Directors’ (ICD) Director Education Program and serves as Vice Chair of the Edmonton ICD Chapter.

Maureen is founder of Shine Advisory and a principal with Ozone Advisory Group, where she advises boards and leaders on governance systems, board effectiveness, strategy, and decision quality. Her career has included executive leadership roles with Rupertsland Institute and the University Hospital Foundation.

A Métis leader from rural Alberta, Maureen brings a perspective shaped by Indigenous communities, industry, economic development, and regulated environments. She serves on four boards, bringing experience in governance, audit and finance, risk, human resources, and public-interest decision-making.

For Maureen, success as Board Chair means “the public can trust that they are well protected.” Public protection is at the heart of CPA Alberta’s mandate and guides how she leads: with integrity, accountability, thoughtful questions, and a long-term view.

Outside the boardroom, Maureen values family, community, and well-being. She can often be found at the St. Albert Farmers’ Market or making time for Pilates. She also has an identical twin, so if you see someone who looks like Maureen at the market, it may not be her!

Cecilia Chen CPA, CA has served on the CPA Alberta Board since 2021 and is a member of CPA Alberta’s Audit and Risk Committee and Governance Committee.

Cecilia is co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of Spire Wealth Management LP in Calgary. For over 15 years, her career has spanned public practice, energy, payments, and wealth management. Before Spire, she was the CFO of SmartBe Wealth and held finance roles with Cardtronics, DirectCash Payments, and Rockpoint Gas Storage.

Throughout her career, Cecilia has combined financial leadership with strategy, governance, and organizational growth. Her experience in regulated industries has strengthened her understanding of risk, accountability, and disciplined decision-making.

Cecilia’s outlook is shaped by her own experience of change. Having come to Canada on her own as a teenager, she learned early how to adapt, exercise judgment, and move forward through uncertainty. She brings that resilience to her Board service, along with a commitment to strong governance and ensuring the profession remains responsive to established members and the new generation of CPAs.

Cecilia also brings a creative perspective: “I grew up around art—my father is an artist, so design, aesthetics, and storytelling were part of my world long before finance.”

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her daughters, reading, working out, and gatherings with family and friends.

Jason Labonte CPA, CMA, CEC was elected to the CPA Alberta Board in 2025 and is a member of the CPA Alberta Board Governance Committee.

Jason is a Certified Executive Coach and strategic adviser based in Edmonton. His career includes serving as Chief Financial Officer at Field Law, along with senior leadership roles in government, corporate, entrepreneurial, and professional services environments. He has more than 20 years of experience leading teams, supporting leaders through change, and helping organizations make decisions during periods of transformation. His approach is grounded in sound judgment, practical execution, and a long-term view.

Jason’s governance perspective has been shaped by serving on boards, reporting to boards, working on executive teams, and leading planning processes involving diverse viewpoints. He believes strong governance begins with clarity of purpose and is sustained through constructive challenge, collaboration, and accountability.

Jason served as a moderator for CMA Alberta’s Strategic Leadership Program and taught accounting at MacEwan University and advised its Accounting and Strategic Measurement Program. His volunteer service has included board roles with Alberta Music and SWAT Hockey, and serving as treasurer of the Terwillegar Community League.

A piece of advice that has stayed with Jason is to “be comfortable in uncertainty.” It reflects a lesson that guides him: “while we cannot control every circumstance, we can control how we respond.”

Outside of work, Jason is an avid triathlete, six-time Ironman finisher, and devoted Oilers fan.

Darren Liviniuk CPA, CA was elected to the CPA Alberta Board in 2024.

Darren is an Edmonton-based partner with Deloitte LLP where his work focuses on assurance, governance, and public-sector transformation. As Deloitte’s Central Government Leader for Alberta, he works with public-sector organizations across all levels of government, including agencies, boards, commissions, Crown corporations, and post-secondary institutions to strengthen accountability, improve decision-making, and support better public outcomes.

Darren has built his career helping leaders make sense of complex information and use it with confidence. His work includes assurance, internal audit, performance audit, program review, service delivery review, finance transformation, and corporate reporting. At its core, his work is about helping organizations become more effective and better equipped to serve the people who rely on them.

Darren is also an active contributor to the profession. He has mentored CPA students, served as treasurer of the Alberta chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association, and presented for CPA Alberta, the Government Finance Officers Association of Alberta, and the University of Alberta.

A piece of advice that has shaped Darren’s career is to find ways to make an impact that aligns with one’s values. It reflects a belief that guides his approach to professional service and leadership: “while the goal is to be accretive, the true power of partnership is that everyone can contribute in their unique way.”

Outside of work, Darren and his wife spend much of their time exploring Edmonton with their twin daughters.

Jenn Miller CPA, CA is a CPA Alberta member who was elected to the CPA Alberta Board in 2025.

Jenn is a partner at MNP LLP where she works with owner-operated businesses across Alberta’s mid-market sector. She enjoys working with her clients to help them manage risks and prepare for the future.

The best advice Jenn has received is to “be present in the moment and enjoy today.” It reminds her to slow down, resist the urge to solve everything at once, and make room for what matters now.

Outside of work, Jenn enjoys spending time with her husband and sons. This year, she aims to learn and practice golf, curling, crib, and bowling.

Rick Mussenden CPA, CA was elected to the CPA Alberta Board in 2023 and serves as Chair of CPA Alberta’s Audit and Risk Committee.

Rick is a Calgary-based partner with KPMG. For more than 30 years, his career has taken him through public practice and industry roles in Kelowna, Toronto, Edmonton, and Calgary. More than half of that time has been spent in Alberta, where he has worked with a wide range of clients and gained a strong understanding of the province’s business community and the varied needs of CPAs.

Rick brings a practical, member-focused perspective to his Board service. His experience spans public and private clients, small and large offices, and different regional markets. He has also served in board and treasurer roles with the MUSC Youth Soccer Club and the Downtown Edmonton Association. Those experiences have shaped his belief that good governance requires sound judgment, accountability, and a clear focus on service.

A leadership lesson that has stayed with Rick is the value of low self-interest. The leaders he most respects are kind, approachable, willing to listen, and focused on empowering their teams and clients.

Outside of work, Rick enjoys working on home renovations, golf, curling, and soccer.

Julie Oliver CPA, CA was elected to the CPA Alberta Board in 2023 and serves on CPA Alberta’s Achievement Awards Review Committee and Audit and Risk Committee.

Julie is a Red Deer-based partner with MNP LLP where she leads assurance quality across her Central Alberta team of 178 people. With nearly three decades in public practice, she understands the challenges facing firms, candidates, clients, and communities across Central Alberta.

Julie develops and delivers professional education, conducts quality management inspections, and helps guide MNP LLP through evolving assurance standards and technologies. She also assists practitioners who recently merged into the firm in other regions in adapting to new templates and standards, as well as providing mentorship in financial reporting issues. This gives her a practical perspective on how the profession can uphold quality while adapting to changing expectations and resource pressures.

Julie is an active contributor to the profession and her community. She has served on CPA Alberta’s Practice Review Committee and the Red Deer Polytechnic Board of Governors’ Audit Committee. She has also held board and treasurer roles with the Red Deer Downtown Business Association and the Caroline and District Chamber of Commerce.

A piece of advice that guides Julie is to “always do what is important first.” It reflects her belief in setting clear priorities and making space for work, family, and well-being.

Outside of work, Julie spends much of her free time with her dogs and husband, exploring new places, going for walks, or curling up with a good book.

Kory Wickenhauser CPA, CA joined the CPA Alberta Board in 2022 and serves on its Governance Committee.

Kory is a Calgary-based partner with PwC LLP where he has built his career since 2007. Alongside his client work, he has been active in national learning and development and campus recruitment, helping students and young professionals understand the value and possibilities of the CPA designation.

Kory brings broad governance and community experience to his Board service. He is a board member and Audit Committee chair with Hull Services, a board member with the Calgary International Film Festival, and a Finance and Audit Committee member with Contemporary Calgary. His volunteer work has also included roles with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, World Petroleum Council Canada, and CPA Alberta’s mentorship program.

Kory’s approach to leadership is people-first. He believes the best results come from listening, working through problems thoughtfully, and making space to recognize people’s contributions along the way. For Kory, strong governance means bringing diverse perspectives together in service of the profession, its members, and the public.

Outside of work, Kory’s family keeps him in constant motion, usually between hockey practices, soccer games, and ski hills. People might also be surprised to learn that Kory’s brother is a PwC partner, albeit halfway around the world, making accounting a family connection across debits, credits, and continents.

Marie Sopko CPHR, CRSP, OHNC is a public member of the CPA Alberta Board.

Marie is a Calgary-based human resources and occupational health leader with more than 20 years of experience building teams, supporting leaders, and strengthening workplace health, safety, and governance practices. She currently works with Cenovus Energy, providing leadership and support for occupational health and wellness programs, policies, and systems.

Marie’s career has included senior roles with Tidewater Midstream and Infrastructure, TELUS Health, the Calgary Board of Education, Alberta Health Services, Newmont Mining, and Nexen Energy. Her experience spans human resources, occupational health and safety, employee and labour relations, policy development, risk management, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.

As a public member, Marie brings a people-focused perspective to Board service. She believes leadership is about how people act: being authentic, building connections, keeping momentum, and asking thoughtful questions. Her background has also made her highly adaptable and resilient in changing work environments.

Outside of work, Marie can often be found at Orangetheory Fitness or enjoying outdoor sports. She also has a talent for interior decorating and enjoys solo travel as time to reflect.
