CPA Practical Experience Requirements Overview for Employers

The Employer Factsheet - Practical Experience Requirements document outlines what is required of employers during a CPA candidate's practical experience term.

Employer Factsheet - Practical Experience Requirements

As an employer supporting Experience Verification Route (EVR) CPA candidates, the CPA candidate is responsible for obtaining qualifying work responsibilities and reporting to CPA Alberta.

You can support CPA candidates by helping them obtain qualifying work experience. More about the technical and enabling competencies required by CPA candidates can be found in the Guides and Resources section below.

Supervisor Requirements

  • The supervisor for an Experience Verification Route report is the person to whom a CPA candidate reports to for the position indicated in their experience report.
  • As a supervisor overseeing a CPA candidate, you are responsible for verifying that the description of duties and experiences reported in their practical experience report is factually accurate.
  • A supervisor must not be related to the CPA candidate and must occupy a position at a higher hierarchy level. They do not need to be a CPA.
  • The supervisor and mentor do not need to be the same person.
