CFE Scholarships

The CPA Education Foundation offers a variety of scholarships and awards to students at all stages of their educational careers – from high school to post-secondary, and through the CPA PEP program to successfully completing the Common Final Exam.

Awarded to CPA PEP Candidates who have persevered and successfully written the 2023 CFE despite unusual or turbulent circumstances. Applicants should include a brief description of obstacles they have overcome in their application letter.

Applicants must:

  • submit one application letter (maximum 500 words) indicating which award is being sought and how they would be a deserving recipient and demonstrate the characteristics outlined in the award criteria; and
  • submit at least one (1) letter of support from a current or former employer, mentor, or community leader.

One award granted annually to a CPA student who resides and works north of Red Deer (outside the greater Edmonton area), has demonstrated consistent superior academic achievement throughout their university and CPA student careers, including performance in the CPA Western School of Business modules and on the CFE (May or September offering); and has contributed to the quality of life in rural Alberta through community service.

Applicants must:

  • submit one application letter (maximum 500 words) indicating which award is being sought and how they would be a deserving recipient and demonstrate the characteristics outlined in the award criteria;
  • submit proof of successful completion of the CFE; and
  • submit at least one (1) letter of support from a current or former employer, mentor, or community leader.

Gordon Rasmussen was a partner of a PricewaterhouseCoopers predecessor firm and founded a successful land development and real estate company. He also served as a director of Canadian Western Bank, the Alberta Teachers’ Pension Fund and Augustana University College. Gordon gave back extensively to the community, serving on the board of such organizations as the Good Samaritan Society and the Tegler Foundation, as well as establishing the Rasmussen Foundation to provide seniors social housing.

Two (2) awards granted annually to one (1) successful writer in southern Alberta and one (1) successful writer in Northern Alberta. Eligible applicants must be CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) candidates who have successfully written the Common Final Examination (CFE) (May or September offering).

Applicants must:

  • be Alberta-based writers who maintain active service in the community while successfully completing the CPA PEP;
  • submit one (1) application letter (maximum 500 words) describing how they would be a deserving recipient and demonstrate the characteristics outlined in the award criteria;
  • submit proof of successful completion of the CFE; and
  • submit one (1) letter of support from an employer, mentor, or community leader.

Accountants Templates Inc. (ATI), the company that creates the Jazzit Suite, was founded by Michael Chew who is a Chartered Professional Accountant and was a CaseWare / CaseView trainer for over five years. ATI’s objective was to find better ways to leverage the technology in CaseWare and CaseView to help accountants finish their engagements faster, easier, and more accurately.

Awarded annually to a northern Alberta-based writer who maintains active service in the community while successfully completing the CFE (May or September offering). Preference will be given to applicants with active participation in coaching of community sports.

Applicants must:

  • submit one application letter (maximum 500 words) indicating which award is being sought and how they would be a deserving recipient and demonstrate the characteristics outlined in the award criteria;
  • provide proof of successful completion of the CFE; and
  • submit at least one (1) letter of support from a current or former employer, mentor, or community leader.
Michael Lissey CA was well-respected for his professionalism and contribution to his community. He loved his family, he loved community sports and he loved being a Chartered Accountant. Mike encouraged young professionals to excel and pursue the profession and always stressed the importance of giving back.
