Providing Non-Assurance Services without an Office location

Registration of a professional accounting firm (PAF) may not be necessary if a CPA practitioner is providing non-assurance services (i.e. compilation, taxation, accounting, etc.) to Alberta clients and will not be:

  • opening an office location in Alberta (virtual or otherwise); OR,
  • advertising services in Alberta.

Each CPA practitioner, partner and/or signing authority that will be performing these services for an Alberta client will need to complete the following:

  • Register as a member with CPA Alberta.
  • Provide confirmation of their service offerings and that they will not be advertising or opening an office in Alberta.
  • Submit the Verification of Public Practice Non-Assurance form.pdf – Sections 1 & 2 are to be completed by the applicant and section 3 is to be completed by the applicants’ Provincial Body. The member is asked to have their Provincial Body return the completed form to directly to CPA Alberta.

Provide proof of Professional Liability Insurance – a copy of the firms’ professional liability insurance certificate will be required.

The Out of Province Professional Accounting Firm Registration Decision Model helps in determining what type of registration (if any) may be required.

Any questions regarding this registration process can be submitted to the Corporate Registrations Team by email to:
