Registration may be required for each out of province CPA practitioner, partner and/or signing authority that is working for a professional accounting firm (PAF) that currently holds registration with CPA Alberta and is providing services to an Alberta client. The type of registration required (if any) is dependent on a number of factors.
If the CPA intends to be responsible for an entire accounting engagement or issue any reports, statutory filings or submissions related to professional accounting or public accounting services from an Alberta office location, the CPA will need to complete the following in order to be added to the engagement responsibility listing for the firm in Alberta:
- Register as a member with CPA Alberta.
- Submit the Verification of Public Practice form.pdf – Sections 1 & 2 are to be completed by the member and section 3 is to be completed by the members’ Provincial Body. The member is asked to have their Provincial Body return the completed form directly to CPA Alberta.
If the CPA intends to provide services to Alberta clients from a location outside of Alberta or represent themselves as a CPA in the province of Alberta, they will need to register as a member of CPA Alberta.
The Out of Province Professional Accounting Firm Engagement Responsibility Decision Model helps in determining what type of registration (if any) may be required.
