In May 2025, the Professional Governance Act was passed in the Alberta legislature. It brings 22 professional regulatory organizations, including CPA Alberta, under a single piece of legislation. The act is largely based on, and when proclaimed will replace, the Chartered Professional Accountants Act (CPA Act).
CPA Alberta is now preparing for the proclamation of the Professional Governance Act, which is expected in June 2026. This involves drafting new bylaws to replace previous governing documents.
