Candidate statement

I see a future where CPAs are the undisputed first choice for leadership and governance across every organization in Canada.

Having served as CFO across major business units at ATB Financial over the past 4.5 years, over the past 4.5 years, I have seen firsthand how fast the financial landscape is evolving and why our profession must stay ahead of the curve. Combining this executive leadership with a decade in public accounting at MNP and fractional CFO experience for tech startups, I bring a modern, 360-degree perspective to the CPA Alberta Board.

My governance experience equips me to add value from day one. As Board Chair of Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), I successfully led the organization through a critical CEO succession and championed a comprehensive governance overhaul, modernizing our structure from the Carver model to a robust, strategic framework.

If elected, my priority will be to ensure CPA Alberta maintains its vital self-regulating status while fostering a highly strategic environment that protects the public interest. I will leverage my unique combination of public practice, enterprise risk management, and tech-sector agility to ensure our board provides the progressive oversight required to support Alberta CPAs in a fast-evolving economic landscape.

What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?

The rapid acceleration of technology, specifically artificial intelligence and automated financial ecosystems, is fundamentally altering the landscape for Alberta CPAs. This shift requires professionals to move rapidly from transactional execution to high-level strategic advisory roles. Additionally, tech startups and evolving corporate structures demand high agility and specialized financial leadership.

CPA Alberta must proactively respond by ensuring its members are equipped with advanced technological and strategic competencies. As someone who has spent years immersed in the tech sector as a fractional CFO, I see firsthand the skills businesses require. CPA Alberta should focus on expanding professional development that marries data literacy with strategic foresight, ensuring our designation remains the gold standard for business leadership.

Furthermore, CPA Alberta must champion the value of the CPA brand to the broader public and evolving business sectors. By reinforcing our rigorous standards of ethical conduct and public protection, we can ensure that as businesses innovate, they continue to look to Alberta CPAs as their most trusted, forward-thinking strategic partners. The organization must stay ahead of regulatory changes to protect our self-regulating status while giving members the tools to thrive.

How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?

My background perfectly bridges the gap between entrepreneurial agility and complex organizational oversight. After a decade at MNP and four years driving innovation as a fractional CFO for tech startups, I pivoted into the highly regulated banking industry at ATB Financial. This shift gave me a front-row seat to the macroeconomic and regional shifts facing the financial sector across North America. It underscored an invaluable truth: balancing stringent compliance with forward-looking growth depends entirely on robust corporate governance.

At ATB, serving as a voting member of the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO) solidified my expertise in enterprise risk, capital management, and institutional compliance. Crucially, my leadership as Board Chair of AWE demonstrates my readiness to lead at the board level. Transitioning AWE from the Carver model to a modern strategic governance framework and managing a successful CEO succession required rigorous structural alignment and risk management.

I bring a sophisticated understanding of how regional economic drivers and North American regulatory trends intersect. I am uniquely positioned to help the CPA Alberta Board navigate its legislated mandate, ensuring we protect the public interest and maintain our self-regulating status without stalling the innovation and strategic agility our members need to thrive.
