Reading Financial Statements – Presentation for Board of Directors of Not-For-Profit Organizations

Reading Financial Statements is designed to assist board members of mid-size not-for-profit organizations in understanding how to interpret financial statements. This 90 minute presentation introduces board members to basic financial statement concepts needed to better understand their organization’s statements of financial position, operations, changes in net assets, re-measurement gains and losses and cash flows, as well as notes to the financial statements and ancillary schedules.

Managing Non-Profit Organizations

Addresses issues unique to the management of Non-Profit Organizations, topics covered include the difference between a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity, the challenges with extracting meaningful performance information from financial statements, challenges associated with volunteer personnel and boards, effective annual reports and internal control considerations. The presentation is approximately 90 minutes in length.

IRS Non-filer Compliance Initiative

The US is one of the only developed countries where taxation is based both on residence and citizenship. While more than six million US citizens live outside of the United States, only 15% are currently adhering to their statutory requirements. The US has introduced several initiatives to force compliance by these individuals. This 90 minute presentation will discuss who is potentially caught by the compliance initiative, the consequences, and possible remedies.

Practice Management Issues

Practice Management Issues address topics most practitioners may experience in the day to day management and operation of their accounting practice. This 90 minute presentation is updated annually. In past years, the presentation have discussed accounting standards changes as well as considerations regarding management letters, file retention, client solicitation and practice marketing and advertising. The 2012 edition predominantly focuses on practice succession considerations.
