Session Description
ESG, Moral Polarization and a New Era of Ethics – A Leadership Opportunity for CPAs and Alberta
We have entered a new and morally polarized era of ethics in which the “old” way of managing business ethics, corporate reputation, whistleblowing, disclosure and ESG (environmental, social, governance) is insufficient.
Stakeholders - from employees to customers to investors - have diverse perspectives on what and how much organizations ought to do to address social and environmental challenges, and CPAs in various roles are being called to navigate these complex tensions.
The personal and business costs of moral polarization (the idea that a business or person is ‘bad’ because of their opinions/views) are becoming increasingly clear – not only in our businesses but also in our relationships, schools, and communities.
With business expertise and connections to hundreds of organizations across the province, CPAs are uniquely positioned to create a positive impact in this new environment.
Using case studies, personal experience, and interactions with leading thought leaders from around the globe, TEDx speaker Morgan Hamel offers an engaging and fresh perspective on ethics, ESG and conflict management to help participants at all levels feel more confident in this new era and more excited about creating a brighter future for our province of Alberta.
