Merwan Saher FCPA, FCA
is the Auditor General of Alberta, a role he’s held since April 2010. Merwan has over 35 years of experience with the Office of the Auditor General, a body that protects Albertans’ best interests by ensuring government ministries and provincial agencies wisely use the funds and resources entrusted to them.
Merwan has represented the office on the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors, and has served as a member of the accounting profession’s Public Sector Accounting Board Task Force on Indicators of Financial Condition
, and a Study Group on Accounting Bases Used in Canadian Government Budgeting
. Currently he is a member of the Conceptual Framework Task Force
, a committee for CPA Canada’s Public Sector Accounting Board.
Merwan’s presentation, titled “The 21st-Century Auditor General
,” provides an informed glimpse into an emerging new strategic vision for the Auditor General and how his Office can and does make a difference in the lives of Albertans. Merwan will offer his perspective on the place of the Auditor General within a complex political and economic environment, and the need to engage the public more effectively in the process. This is a presentation that will appeal to any CPA who’s thinking about the changing nature of our profession.
