Students and Candidates

The profession may accept up to one year of experience earned prior to registering with the CPA Professional Education Program. After that time, the qualifying period of practical experience cannot begin until CPA students/candidates have a CPA mentor.

There are two routes for obtaining CPA practical experience:

  • Future CPAs who work in a CPA pre-approved program will be matched with a CPA mentor by the employer that offers the program.
  • Future CPAs who choose experience verification are required to seek out their own CPA mentor in order to find a successful fit. The profession will help match CPA students/candidates with CPA mentors if they are unsuccessful in finding a mentor.
