Edmonton – Pedro Carriel CPA, CMA

Art Gallery of Alberta
Deputy Director, Head of Finance and Administration

Originally from Chile, Pedro grew up in Edmonton and began his professional career as a teacher before changing careers in 2003, going on to receive his accounting designation in 2012.

Since 2014, Pedro has been the Deputy Director, Head of Finance and Administration at the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA). In this capacity, he oversees Finance and Accounting, Operations Management, Human Resources, and Information Technology. He also provides Strategic and business planning support for the organization.

Prior to joining the AGA, he held senior finance roles within the Government of Alberta. Furthermore, his professional background includes experience in general Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Purchasing while working with Aramark Remote Services (Edmonton), Kawasaki Mexico (Monterrey, Mexico) and Royal Doulton (Toronto).

In addition to being a regular volunteer at CPA Alberta events and having taught within the CPA Program (Strategy and Governance), Pedro is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Edmonton Food Bank.

Pedro is a graduate of the University of Alberta.

Calgary – Richard Boyer CPA, CA

Richard Boyer has over 25 years of experience in various leadership roles in both public and private enterprises. Since 2015, Richard has served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Crystal Creek Homes, Through his consulting practice, XCel Advisory Group, Richard also assists CEOs and CFOs of small and medium-sized businesses to manage growth and improve effectiveness.

Prior to Crystal Creek Homes, Richard was the President of Ply Gem Canada, a leading manufacturer of exterior building materials. He led Ply Glen through the purchase of Gienow Windows & Doors, an organization he had also served, first as CFO from 1999 to 2006, and subsequently as president. Richard was instrumental in integrating both businesses under a single leadership so that their million dollar synergies could be leveraged.

Prior to Gienow, Richard spent 10 years with Quebecor Inc.’s media holdings in Winnipeg, finishing as Divisional Vice President and Publisher of the Winnipeg Sun. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, and received his accounting designation in 1987.

Since 2010, Richard has been the Board Chair at the Alex Community Centre, a Calgary-based, non-profit organization which provides health and social solutions with a focus on improving quality of life, strengthening communities, and reducing strain on government services.
